PARENT & CAREGIVER EDUCATION

Pioneering Connections, LLC offers workshops for parents and caregivers on caring for children that have been traumatized. We educate caregivers on how trauma affects the brain and provide research-based strategies to use with traumatized youth and their families. Our workshops offer caregivers practical ways to help children who have experienced trauma heal and thrive.

AVAILABLE TRAININGS

Overcoming ACEs with Assets:  Infusing asset building, resiliency, and youth development to improve youth outcomes.

The ACE Study findings suggest that certain experiences are major risk factors for high-risk behaviors, illness, death, as well as poor quality of life.  This training will help participants to understand the link between ACES and these negative outcomes, then prepare participants to “immunize” kids against the effects of ACES by identifying and understanding the importance of protective factors, particularly developmental assets. Based on Search Institute’s 40 developmental assets, asset building is a research-based approach to working with children and youth.  The focus is on cultivating relationships, opportunities, skills, values, and commitments young people need to grow up healthy, caring and responsible. Participates will create an action plan to incorporate these strategies into their daily lives through an interactive workshop.

NCTSN’s Caring for Children who have experienced Trauma

This training is a resource designed to teach caregivers basic knowledge, skills, and values about working with children within the child welfare system who have experienced traumatic stress. Participants will understand the impact traumatic stress has on a child, be introduced to assessment tools that can help identify children affected by traumatic stress and be provided ways that caregivers can manage their own stress.

Trauma & Developmental Disabilities

This workshop will offer information on different types of developmental disabilities to include Autism, Anxiety Disorders, ADD/ADHD and ODD.  Caregivers increase their knowledge of behaviors and health issues that manifest themselves in these diagnoses.

Managing Behaviors and Emotions

This workshop will assist caregivers in understanding the effects of trauma on the brain and behavioral, social, and emotional functioning.  This workshop will help participants to understand the relationship between trauma reminders and behaviors.  Participants will learn and practice healthy coping strategies including mindfulness.

Young Children in Out Of Home Care

This training is focused on the unique needs of infants and toddlers in care including attachment,  physical health, development, and proper sleeping habits. Participants will increase their knowledge of early intervention programs, developmentally-appropriate visitation practices and the effects of trauma on early child development.

Separation and Attachment

This workshop will present information on attachment and the effects of placement and separation on the child and the child’s parent(s).  It will also include working with birth families and visitations and the effects of caregiving on the birth family.

Helping Youth Transition to Adulthood: Guidance for Foster Parents

This workshop will discuss with foster care providers unique challenges of children exiting foster care.  Participants will review adolescent brain development and discuss specific strategies, laws and programs to support transitioning  youth.

Healing The Experience of Trauma

This training will present, Healing the Experience of Trauma: A Path to Resilience, which was developed for practitioners to use with children who are living in a constant state of toxic stress. Instead of asking a child what happened, it focuses on their lives now. Learn the process of moving traumatized youth between themes of trauma and feelings of connection, resilience and strength. Structured sessions integrate mind-body skills and expressive art activities that provide the child with a platform to be an active participant in their healing.
