FOSTER PARENT TRAINING

We offer learning opportunities that support adoptive, foster and kinship parents in their effort to provide a safe, nurturing and loving environment for the children in their care. Our workshops provide foster parents with the knowledge and skills to:

  • Understand how traumatic events impact children.

  • Handle problems as they arise.

  • Handle routine matters such as medical and psychological care, clothing needs, education and visitation with the birth family.

  • Develop problem-solving and teamwork skills.

  • Comply with ethical and legal standards.

  • Build positive relationships with birth families.

INTERVENTIONS FOR CHILDREN, FAMILIES & COMMUNITIES

Our Certified Trauma Practitioner provides the opportunity for families and children to safely revisit and rework past trauma, beginning with sensory memories which youth have experienced and stored. Trauma-related symptoms can be reduced and resilience strengthened to support post-traumatic growth as individuals engage in Structured Sensory Interventions for Traumatized Children, Adolescents, and Parents (SITCAP) and/or Emotional Emancipation Circles.

PARENT EDUCATION/ DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS

Parents and child-serving agencies learn about how Developmental Assets help children grow into caring, engaged, and responsible adults. Developmental Assets include the internal character strengths and commitments young people need as well as the external supports and opportunities they need from their families, schools, organizations, and communities.
